About West Amwell Township
West Amwell occupies about 21.8 square miles in southern Hunterdon County. The township's landscape is dominated by active farms, wooded ridges, preserved open space and low-density residential areas, with the Sourland Mountain Ridge crossing the municipality.
The area was once part of Amwell Township, created in 1708. West Amwell and East Amwell became separate municipalities in 1846. An early Lenape path later became part of Old York Road, linking the Delaware River area with Mount Airy, Ringoes and communities farther east.

Hewitt Park

Arnett Park

A National Register district centered on the historic Mount Airy crossroads along Route 179 and County Route 603. Its buildings reflect village development from the late 18th and 19th centuries.

A rural historic district spanning the West Amwell–Hopewell area, characterized by farms, historic roads and preserved agricultural landscapes.
Old York Road
